Passing of Ron Lowe, Deputy Mayor July 26, 2010

It is with extreme sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Ron Lowe, Deputy Mayor of the Township of Whitewater Region over the weekend.

The wake will be held at the Heubner Funeral Home located at 5 Crawford Street, Cobden on:

Monday, July 26th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Tuesday, July 27th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28th at 2:00pm at the Beachburg United Church in Beachburg.

The Municipal Office will close on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at noon for the funeral service.  The office will re-open on Thursday, July 29 at 8:30am.

Council and staff wish to extend heartfelt sympathy to Deputy Mayor Lowe’s wife, Diane and the family at this difficult time.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

WATER/SEWER AND TAX BILLS July 12, 2010

The third water/sewer bill for 2010 is due July 30, 2010.  Payment can be made at the Municipal Office in Cobden, by mail and at the ScotiaBank in Beachburg, Cobden or Pembroke.  We accept post-dated cheques and Debit Cards.  Other payment options available include pre-authorized payment plans arranged with the Township and Internet/telephone payment arranged with your bank. 

The due dates for the final 2010 tax bill have changed – the tax due dates will be Tuesday, August 31st and Friday, October 29th, 2010.  The tax bills will be mailed out later this month.

2010 FINAL TAX BILL July 5, 2010

The due dates for the 2010 Final Tax Bill for residential, farm and managed forest properties are:

Tuesday, August 31st and Friday, October 29th

The final tax bills for capped classes (commercial, industrial and multi-residential properties) will be mailed out in July and their due dates will be:

Tuesday, August 31st and Friday, October 29th

MUNICIPAL ELECTION - COMPLIANCE AUDIT June 22, 2010

The City of Pembroke, Township of Laurentian Valley, and Township of Whitewater Region are currently seeking interested applicants from professionals who are required to adhere to codes of standards of their profession, and other individuals with in-depth knowledge of the campaign financing rules of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, for appointment to the 2010 Election Joint Compliance Audit Committee. 2010 ROADS CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM June 20, 2010

The 2010 Public Works (Roads) budget has now been approved by Council.  The following projects will be completed using the remainder of funds provided by the Province of Ontario under the Municipal Road & Bridge Infrastructure Investment program and Township reserves for road purposes:

Foresters Falls Road

3300 metres

The following project is being undertaken using funds provided by the Government of Canada through the transfer of Gas Tax Revenue and Township reserves:

In addition, some reconstruction work will occur on Dombroskie Road and sections of some streets will be repaired/paved in Cobden, Beachburg and Westmeath.

Delays could be experienced while these roads are under construction.  Your patience is appreciated while we work to improve our roadways.

WATERING RESTRICTIONS June 13, 2010

Watering By-Law 03-03-108 restricts watering in the following locations:

  • Beachburg
  • Cobden
  • Haley Townsite

It is prohibited to water lawns, gardens or grass plots, except between the hours of 6:30pm and 8:30pm each day.  It is prohibited to water lawns during the permitted times with more than one lawn sprinkler or other appliance for sprinkling.

   
DAILY BUS SERVICE FROM PEMBROKE TO OTTAWA June 11, 2010

Do you live in the Township and commute daily to Ottawa for work or other various reasons?  Would you be interested in a bus service running from Pembroke to Ottawa?

Greyhound is now offering a commuter fare from Pembroke to Ottawa with stops in Arnprior, Renfrew and Cobden.  A monthly pass is $410 or 20 tickets can be purchased for $310 – one ticket is required for each way of the trip.  The pick up and drop off in Ottawa is at the Greyhound Bus Terminal located at 265 Catherine Street.   The stop in Cobden is a flag stop on Highway 17 located near 17 West.

2010 MOBILE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE EVENTS March 17 2010

Tentative dates for the 2010 Mobile Household Hazardous Waste Events are

WHEN:
Saturday, May 15th, 2010
Saturday, September 25th, 2010
Rain or Shine

WHERE:
Public Works Garage

TIME:
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Hazardous waste items that will be accepted include batteries (all types), used oils & oil filters, paints & stain, pesticides & herbicides, household cleaners, gasoline mixtures, turpentine, fluorescent bulbs and old medications.  Used needles will also be accepted if placed in a sealed plastic bottle and clearly labelled as containing needles.  

All residents of the Township will be able to drop off household hazardous waste at this location on the specified days.

ANNUAL WATER REPORTS March 17, 2010

Ontario Water Regulations 170/03 requires that annual reports for water systems be made available to the Public.  The annual reports for 2009 are available at the Whitewater Region Municipal Office during normal working hours at 44 Main Street, Cobden.

NOTICE - 2010 DOG LICENSES Feb 8, 2010

2010 Dog Licenses are now available at the Municipal Office located at 44 Main Street, Cobden.  Residents are reminded that all dogs residing in the Township must be licensed and registered with the Township.

An application for a dog license is available for download on this web site - CLICK HERE.

Please make cheque or money order payable to the “Township of Whitewater Region”.  Please do not send cash.

Landlords are requested to please notify any tenants.

Municipal Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

FEES:

For all sterilized dogs:
Before March 31, 2010        $15.00
After March 31, 2010          $22.00

For all unsterilized dogs:
Before March 31, 2010        $20.00
After March 31, 2010          $27.00

All licenses and registration shall expire on December 31, 2010.
Anyone not purchasing a tag may be charged under By-Law #01-09-45

PHYSICIAN WAIT LIST April 14, 2009

The Township of Whitewater Region has joined the Upper Ottawa Valley Medical Recruitment Committee (UOVMRC) in a search for Family Physicians.  This group which consist of the City of Pembroke, Townships of Laurentian Valley, North Algona/ Wilberforce, Bonnechere Valley, the Township of Whitewater Region and the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan.

They have taken the lead in developing a process to track individuals who are without a family physician and wish to be on a waiting list for a family physician.

The form is for use by people living in the catchments area of the Upper Ottawa Valley Medical as listed above. If you are in search of a family physician please fill out the attached form

FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED March 23, 2009

This is a reminder that fire permits are required for open air burning from April 1st to October 31st.  Fire permits can be obtained free of charge from the Township Municipal Office in Cobden or from an appointed Fire Warden.  Further detailed information can be found on this website under Fire Department - Open Air Burning.

   
ANIMAL CONTROL April 26, 2008

Steve Fiegen, from the Township of Bonnechere Valley, is now performing Animal Control duties for the Township of Whitewater Region .

We will be informing him when we encounter any complaints of lost dogs that need to be picked up during the week and on weekends.

During a WEEKNIGHT or WEEKEND, you must contact Steve with your information and he will come get the lost dog if he feels that the dog CAN be captured.
