The next municipal and school board election will be held in the Township of Whitewater Region between October 12 and October 22, 2018.
All the positions are at large because we no longer have wards.
The following Municipal positions will be available:
The following is a list of the School Boards for which qualified electors will be entitled to vote unless there are acclamations. Non-resident electors will be entitled to vote for school boards if their qualifying property is residential. Non-residential commercial or industrial property electors are not eligible to vote for school boards but are entitled to vote for other municipal officers or questions.
- Renfrew County District School Board (English public)
- Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (English separate)
- Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (French public)
- Conseil des écoles du Centre-Est (French separate)
A person is entitled to be a candidate in the 2018 municipal election if they are an eligible elector. A candidate must be eligible as of the day they are nominated and must remain eligible throughout the election period and, if elected, throughout the term of office.
Changes to the Legislation since the 2014 Election
Please note that the Municipal Elections Modernization Act, passed June 7, 2016 made changes to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. These changes affect the Nomination Calendar, Eligibility, Third Party Advertising, Ranked Ballot Voting, Campaign Finance, Accessibility, Campaign Advertising and Election Administration for 2018. Some of these changes came into effect immediately after Royal Assent and certain changes do not come into effect until April 1, 2018.
