Roads

The Public Works Department is responsible for approximately 712 lane kilometers of roadway. This consists of 398 lane kilometers of hard top surface and 314 lane kilometers of gravel roads.

Minimum Maintenance Standards set by the Provincial Government are followed for class 4 and 5 roads.

There are three Public Works garages located in Whitewater Township

  • 1798 Westmeath Road
  • 2271 Mineview Road
  • 40 Gould Street, Cobden

Hours of operation are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Monday to Friday

The Public Works Department Fleet

  • 7 tandems for snowplowing in the winter and construction in the summer
  • 2 graders used for grading the gravel roads in the summer, and snow plowing in the winter if needed
  • 1 excavator used for brushing along the roadways and digging for culverts and ditches
  • 3 loaders for loading granular material in the yard or in various gravel pits
  • 2 sidewalk machines
  • 2 multi-tonne trucks for patching and various summer jobs as well as small plow jobs in the winter
  • 1 tractor for mowing the grass on the shoulders and moving the snow in the winter

Signs can be ordered by filling out the request form below and sending it to the Township office. There is a fee which includes the sign, post and installation by the Public Works Department

Entrance Application

Residents wishing to install an entrance onto a Township Road must apply for an entrance permit linked below. The proposed location of the entrance shall be staked out by the property owner prior to inspection by the Roads Supervisor who will decide if the location is safe and if a culvert is necessary. There is a fee associated when submitting an entrance application.
